Long gone are the days when we could simply assume the products we buy and the food we eat is safe for us. Instead, in our increasingly chemicalized society we are finding that not only are toys imported from China laced with high levels of lead and our food supply is routinely tainted with harmful bacteria and e-coli, but now harmful chemicals may be present in plastic baby bottles.
The Reproductive Toxicology Journal published a report last week that warns parents and caretakers about the potential health risks of bisphenol-A, or BPA.
Lab tests showed that rats with even a small amount of BPA were at a higher risk of health complications. In fact, BPA has been proved to cause hyperactivity, ADHD, slowed learning, as well as prostate and breast cancer.
As a mom, what can you do? We recommend buying bottles that are BPA-free. We found Born Free(TM) baby bottles on the Net. They are bisphenol-A free. They are more expensive than regular plastic baby bottles, but well worth it.
